It’s important that we all carve our own niche in this place. Explore what makes each one of us unique for that distinctiveness is what…
‘Why now? Why the blind’s eye toward an authoritarian regime, a dictatorship like government when democracy (supposedly) is the cornerstone of our Constitution? Why are many Americans, especially ones that are in power, allowing the destruction of this country’s founding ideals right before our very eyes? And they know it’s happening.
Because… it was never about democracy. Well, maybe initially. In its primitive quest for freedom, its embryo towards an independent identity extracted from British rule was imbedded in ‘power to the people’ and ‘no taxation without representation.’ – then, maybe; remember, the low man will take help from anywhere. And with its new found freedom, this young nation was still on shaky ground, still looking over its shoulder for an unprovoked attack or threat to its new democracy. Seeing the effects of its forefather, England, America didn’t want a kingship ruling class, it wanted to give power to the people, power to those that stood and fought for this new government and power to the offspring of its European father. In other words, power to white men.
Democracy and a heard voice was always designed with only white men in mind. Powerful white men, land owning white men, those were the voices, that was its intention. Never did the signers of the Constitution envision a Black President or lawmaking decisions from the mouths of Blacks and women. And definitely no foresight of either of these ‘lesser beings’ having dominion of their founding nation.
But, times have changed.
Think about it, President Obama served eight years. If Hilary had won, she most likely would’ve gotten the same, that’s sixteen years of minority rule. And, as our country continues to shift, there’s no telling when another straight, christian, Anglo-Saxon white male would have been elected President again. Their country would have been lost forever. Hence Donald Trump. His rise is akin to the beginning. Maybe not on the parchment of the Constitution but definitely in its manifestation. This country was designed by white men and for white men only and the threat of minority inclusion is eating away at that foundation.
And add in the fact that trump has given voice to his followers’ true beliefs and fears. He says how they feel and do as they might. He’s American history as they see it and the future as they wish. Their way of life is being challenged and that idealism of white supremacy must be defended – even at the expense of losing the nation. Why exist without the supremacy? The foundation of America’s design.
There are two white americas, trump followers and those questing for equality. The latter gets it, understanding the demographic change that’s happening and embracing the ideas that we’re all in this together. They’ve grown their confidence without threat and have assimilated to diversity. The former has not, they’ll continue to embrace hate, ignorance, fear and supremacy.
Ironically, if America were to fold as all empires eventually do, who do you think will survive? Those used to being waited on hand and foot or those who’ve already seen the worse humanity has to offer.
