Cop Killings

Emory Douglas

Yes, the police are to protect and serve but its not the people, it’s the structure that supplies their interests.  Usually class is what distinguishes the perception of right versus wrong or comfort versus discomfort but, the vileness of the police i.e. law enforcement has consistently been specific to the Black population.

Bill Cosby may or may not be a sexual predator but, he presently sits in jail while the president of the United States has side stepped all similar accusations.  Selling loose cigarettes is an instant death sentence but selling simulated stock profiles for billions can take place for years, building wealth and channeling funds.

There’s something fishy about the connection between cops and Black people.  Something fishy.  Even fake cops think they have this power.  Is it that they’re instructed to act as a thin blue line to protect the way of life to whom they serve from the encroachment of people of color?  I’m Black, I don’t know, I can only speculate.  Seriously, I’d plead for you to take a look at the findings in the Ferguson investigation, yet no one has been prosecuted and that’s just one city across America.  There’s a psychosis to being a cop, a person who carries a gun, along with a racial prejudice created by the history of this nation.  Not all officers are bad but, they all have prejudices, they all have beliefs and they all have a desire to survive, so when faced with adversity, instincts take over, survival and prejudice.  And that’s the minimum, mix in arrogance, disdain, entitlement, racism, structural protection and you have a pandemic that has infested the Black Community since the overseer became officer. To patrol a community from which you’re completely detached is a recipe for disaster. An officer should’ve known Eric Garner enough to defuse the situation, an officer should have known Amadou Diallo enough to have understood the actions of the immigrant minority, an officer did know George Floyd…

Tamir Rice would have been able to vote this year.

When you weaponize those prejudices with army artillery (the sword) as opposed to social adaptations (the olive branch), you get what is taking place across America. Patrolling an apartment building with a gun drawn, then murdering because of your fear.  And not once did you imagine the worst case scenario and say, I shouldn’t do that.  Or did you and that outcome not matter.  Not once did a discussion occur that if an apartment complex is so daunting that police have to patrol it with guns drawn (against regulation) then we need to socially change that environment.  The Chicago police force has a separate fund to pay victims of police brutality.

We can beat this, turn the tables and gain the respect that we deserve from this occupying force.  We just need to band together, be strong and become more involved in our communities.  It’s not just voting at the top.  We need to demand from our local officials on up, who do they support and are their interests in line with ours.  We need to be specific with our demands and if they aren’t met, or are evasive, they cannot lead.  They cannot get our vote.  We have the power, each one of us, and if we collectively voice together, the killings will cease.  Guaranteed.

  • I hope to God, my family and friends will not see me die handcuffed and with a knee on my neck.
  • I hope to God, I will not be murdered in my sleep.
  • I hope to God my family and friends won’t find me hanged in a jail cell.
  • I hope to God I can jog and not be murdered by vigilantes.
  • I hope to God I will not be followed and shot down because I confronted the person who followed me.

I hope to God I can die peacefully and not by the hands of the police.
